Brussels greenlights Xemium®, the next generation fungicide from BASF

BASF’s next generation fungicide, Xemium, has been approved in the EU for use in crop protection products.

BASF’s next generation fungicide,  Xemium, has been approved in the EU for use in crop protection products. This builds on the successful 2011-12 launches for Xemium in France, Germany and the UK and will help BASF to obtain registrations for products containing Xemium in all EU-member countries. The greenlight from Brussels also means that Xemium is well on track to significantly exceed its estimated peak sales potential of €200 million per year.

“We have many years of experience with carboxamides and are thrilled that Xemium has achieved this important milestone so quickly,” said Jürgen Oldeweme, Head of the Global Product Safety and Registration Unit at BASF’s Crop Protection division. “This listing helps us to continue providing farmers with a portfolio of innovative products that support efficient, sustainable farming.”

Xemium is highly effective against a broad spectrum of key plant diseases, especially Septoria leaf blotch, and shows unprecedented distribution in the plant. These features, particularly when combined with azoles, allow for more efficient and flexible disease control.

Globally, registration plans for Xemium include more than 100 crops in over 50 countries. In addition to its recent successful  launch in the U.S. for soybeans, corn and specialty crops, the Company is focused on attaining further registrations around the globe.
