Retail is in a constant state of flux ¬– especially in the fresh produce trade. But how is this industry changing? To find out, the German fruit trade association (DFHV) commissioned a study at the University of Göttingen. Under the direction of Professor Ludwig Theuvsen at the Department of Agricultural Economics, the study investigated whether and how global fresh produce flows are changing. The results of the study indicated that Europe remains a key export market, but is becoming less important. The Asian market, on the other hand, is gaining importance. For some products, particularly in the premium segment, this could even result in long-term supply shortages in Europe.

What conclusions can and should the international fresh produce sector draw from this study? How does it need to adapt? These and many other questions will be answered in Berlin at FRUIT LOGISTICA, the world's leading trade fair for the fresh produce business. FRUIT LOGISTICA Global Brand Manager Wilfried Wollbold stresses the trade fair's importance. "Today more than ever it is important to not only monitor this process of change, but also to play an active role in shaping it. As the hub of the global fresh produce industry, FRUIT LOGISTICA offers an ideal platform."
