Dutch entrepreneurs in the fruit and vegetable sector, food horticulture (specializing in products for the catering industry) and the potato chips sector suffering (major) damage as a result of the coronavirus crisis, can already report to RVO from today.

The call can only take place after the approval of the European Commission. In view of the rush, employers can apply for aid to the RVO before approval. These are companies that face a sharp drop in demand for perishable goods during the peak season, while costs continue. Dutch Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV) Minister Schouten previously announced that he would make an additional 650 million available for this group. Of this, 600 million euros go to the floriculture and food horticulture sector. The remaining 50 million euros will be available for the potato chips sector.

Entrepreneurs in the fruit and vegetable and food horticulture sector who, due to the coronavirus crisis, lose more than 30% of their turnover from March 2020 to May 2020, can request a substantial part of the compensation for 70% of the loss billing. Potato chip producers receive compensation for the amount of potato chips they still have in stock. The refund applies to potatoes that can no longer be processed into potato chips this season.

Many companies in the fruit and vegetable sector, food services in the fruit and vegetable sector and potato chips are experiencing a difficult situation due to the sudden drop in demand and the disappearance of the export market. The cultivation and harvesting of their products cannot simply be stopped. For example, entrepreneurs face recurring fixed costs and production costs without any income. They received no help with the previous emergency package presented by the cabinet. That is why Minister Schouten has decided to accommodate this group with additional measures. As soon as the call is completed, the RVO will process the applications submitted.

The call is intended for entrepreneurs who face acute loss of demand and damages due to the coronavirus crisis, while costs continue to run. Companies that have this situation, and really need it, can participate in the call.
