The importance of good fertilization in cassava growing Research from the International Potash Institute (IPI) shows the high yield and quality that is achieved in cassava cultivation with adequate nutrition. 5/5/2020
The importance of cassava as a food crop cannot be underestimated. It is the third largest source of carbohydrates in the tropics and the sixth largest food crop in the world. In summary, cassava is vital for food security and important for trade. The International Potash Institute, in its Bulletin No. 22, sheds light on the importance of cassava, in addition to providing complete details on the origin, botany and physiology of the crop, as well as offering clear and detailed information on the role, the absorption and accumulation of nutrients from plants, and an interesting explanation of the benefits of supply and the consequences of deficiency. Fertilizer for high performance and quality Studies by IPI researchers indicate that soil fertility is one of the most important factors for the successful production of any crop. However, while it is difficult to determine the use of fertilizers in cassava, research indicates that the application of fertilizers to cassava is rare. In addition, it highlights the benefits for cassava of adequate crop nutrition. It demonstrates how, with a balanced fertilizer strategy, the productivity of this essential crop would increase for the benefit of all those who depend on it for food and income.
