A "new concept" to ensure the viability of German agriculture in the future displayed The objective of the DBV initiative is to initiate open discussions about the future of agriculture and nutrition at the national level and to involve all stakeholders: society, politics, consumers and agriculture. 4/21/2021
The president of the German Farmers Association (DBV), Joachim Rukwied, has presented a future concept for German agriculture at a digital event. "With our future concept, we want to lay the foundation for a new partnership between food and agriculture," said President Rukwied. “German farmers not only produce high-quality and safe food, but we also provide numerous services in terms of protecting the environment, climate and species. Of course we want to improve even more here. However, farmers are increasingly under pressure from the current political and economic environment. Many farmers now doubt the sustainability of agriculture in Germany. That has to change again, ”continues Rukwied. The future concept of the German Farmers Association offers four suggestions on how farmers, as well as citizens and consumers, can gain new confidence in the future viability of this important industry. The aim of the concept is to initiate open discussions about the future of agriculture and nutrition at the national level and to involve all stakeholders: society, politics, consumers and agriculture. The proposal includes, among other things, an amendment to the Basic Law in Article 20a to add the objectives of food safety and climate protection. Here the DBV presents a specific wording. In addition, it is proposed to fundamentally expand the Joint Agricultural Structure and Coastal Protection (GAK) task and increase funding for it. Other goals are a binding labeling of production and origin of sustainably produced domestic products and a legal stipulation that additional area-related requirements for increased biodiversity in agricultural and forestry management are voluntarily implemented and complied with accordingly. permanent way. In view of the many challenges, the President of the Farmers Association, Rukwied, is convinced that this concept can be an important step for the future of agriculture: “We want to ensure that agriculture 'Made in Germany' has a future. German farmers are more than willing to combine their production of high-quality food with more sustainability achievements. But for this we need clear commitments that agriculture, food security and sustainability are inextricably linked. With our concept we want to take a step towards the future of agriculture. "
