Estimates of the Gross Value of Agricultural Production (GVP) of Brazil for 2020, obtained from the information for August, are 771.4 billion Brazilian reais, 10.1% higher than the value of 2019 (R $ 700.3 billion). This year's VBP is the largest ever achieved in the historic series, which began in 1989.

Crops resulted in R $ 519 billion, equivalent to 67.3% of BVP, and livestock, in R $ 252.3 billion, or 32.7% of BVP. Crops increased their sales by 13.6% compared to last year and livestock by 3.7%.

Soy represented 37.4% of the value of crops, with R $ 194.2 billion, corn, with 15.8% equivalent to R $ 81.9 billion.

"Some products are obtaining results never before obtained, such as soybeans, corn, beef, pork and eggs", highlights José García Gasques, general coordinator of Policy Evaluation and Information of the Secretariat of Agrarian Policy, of the Ministry of Agriculture. Livestock and Supply.

Gasques explains that two factors are responsible for these results, domestic prices and foreign sales. "Domestic prices, much higher than last year, and exports, of meat and grains mainly to China, drive the favorable performance," he explains.

The products with the best performance are the following: peanuts 23.7%, rice 19.9%, cocoa 16.6%, coffee 39.8%, beans 13.8%, orange 8.8%, castor 33.4%, corn 15.2% , soy 26.1% and wheat 67.4%. Products with a reduction in PVV can be observed in cotton -2.9%, banana -8.8%, potato -23.7%, cassava -3.7%, tomato -13.1% and grape -13.8 %. These products, in general, had lower production this year and lower prices.

The states that pull the values of Brazilian agricultural production are Mato Grosso (R $ 136.5 billion), Paraná (R $ 98.5 billion) and São Paulo (R $ 95.7 billion).

The VBP shows the evolution of the behavior of crops and livestock throughout the year and corresponds to gross sales within the establishment. It is calculated based on the production of agricultural and livestock crops and the prices that producers receive in the main places of the country.
