The CABI (Center for Agricultural Bioscience International) BioProtection portal, the innovative online biosecurity resource, available on four continents, has strengthened its ability to promote global adoption of natural pest control by welcoming BioProtection Global (BPG) as a partner .

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been agreed between CABI and BPG, the global federation of biocontrol and biopesticide industry associations, which will see alliances of BPG members help promote the use of the CABI BioProtection Portal throughout the world.

BPG's associations are comprised primarily of manufacturers of biocontrol and biopesticide products for professional use in agriculture, public health, forestry, animal health, and other non-agricultural uses.

BPG's influence on the global biocontrol industry is expected to encourage more manufacturers to partner with the CABI BioProtection Portal, which is now available in Spain, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Ghana and Kenya, with more countries to follow soon.

A free-to-use tool, the CABI BioProtection Portal helps growers and pest management consultants identify, source, and correctly apply biocontrol and biopesticide products for their specific crop pest problems.

Dr. Ulrich Kuhlmann, CABI Executive Director of Global Operations said: “Globally, an estimated 40 percent of crops are lost to pests and diseases. The widespread use of chemical pesticides to combat crop pests is neither economically nor environmentally sustainable in the long term, especially when the impacts aggravated by climate change are taken into account.

"CABI is pleased to welcome BioProtection Global as an associate member, as our joint collaboration to promote the benefits of more sustainable pest management will not only benefit growers in the short term, but the environment in the future as well. medium and long term ".

The CABI BioProtection Portal is expected to become the reference resource for identifying and sourcing biocontrol products and biopesticides. It will be particularly beneficial for producers looking to replace chemical pesticides with biological products to meet market or export standards, meet consumer demands for healthier and safer foods, and reduce pressures on the environment.

Nicolás Cock Duque, President of BioProtection Global, said: “CABI's BioProtection Portal brings together in one place the various safest and most environmentally friendly bioprotection products that growers can add to their 'arsenal' against pests of crops as part of an integrated pest management plan. . "

“We are pleased, as an organization that seeks to promote bioprotection and the wide adoption of the use of its products in integrated pest management programs - with respect to human health and the environment to provide a more sustainable and regenerative world - to be in association with CABI and the CABI BioProtection Portal ”.

The innovative tool has been made available by CABI in collaboration with its network of partner biocontrol manufacturers (Koppert Biological Systems, Syngenta, e-nema and Oro Agri) and donors (the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, the Swiss Agency for Development). and Cooperation, the African Development Bank, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the European Commission's Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development, which provide invaluable support in the form of technical input, strategic orientation and financing.

CABI

CABI is an international non-profit organization that improves people's lives by providing information and applying scientific knowledge to solve problems in agriculture and the environment.

Through the exchange of knowledge and science, CABI helps address issues of global concern, such as improving global food security and protecting the environment. We do this by helping farmers grow more and lose less of what they produce, fighting threats to agriculture and the environment from pests and diseases, protecting biodiversity from invasive species, and improving access to agricultural and environmental scientific knowledge. Our 50 member countries guide and influence our core areas of work, which include research and development projects, scientific publications, and microbial services.

We appreciate basic financial support from our member countries (and lead agencies), including the United Kingdom (Office of Foreign, Commonwealth and Development), China (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China), Australia (Australian Center for International Agricultural Research ), Canada (Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada), the Netherlands (Directorate General for International Cooperation and Switzerland (Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation). Other sources of funding include funding for programs / projects of development agencies, fees paid by our member countries and benefits from our publishing activities that allow CABI to support rural development and scientific research around the world.

BioProtection Global (BPG) is a global association of biocontrol and biopesticide industry associations. These associations are primarily made up of manufacturers of biocontrol products and biopesticides for professional use in agriculture, public health, forestry, animal health, and other non-agricultural uses.

BPG aims to represent the biosecurity industry on key issues on a global scale in order to promote biosecurity and harmonize the regulations provided.

The main objectives of BPG are, on the one hand, to expand and accelerate the adoption of biosecurity solutions through partnerships (SDG 17) that contribute to the achievement of the UN SDG 2030, including those related to food, health, well-being, water, climate and life, and on the other hand, promoting public policies, global harmonization and the regulatory frameworks provided that favor biosecurity solutions.
