From Veneto to Senegal in the name of water and agriculture: the Eastern Veneto remediation consortium has launched an important international cooperation project in the African state, together with the integrated water services company LTA (Livenza Tagliamento Acque); the project is called "Let's help them in Africa" and is promoted by the non-profit organization Milena Pallamin.

"It is an example of the culture of doing, inherent in the work of the Reclamation and Irrigation Consortia - comments Francesco Vincenzi, President of ANBI - The intervention has in fact reproducibility characteristics, so that it can be replicated in the service of water suffering communities. It should be remembered that even in Italy there are regions at risk such as Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Molise, Puglia, Sicily and especially Sardinia, where the danger of desertification looms over 52% of the territory and 11% is already affected . "

The initiative saw the creation of a first 5 hectare agricultural plot, used for the cultivation of horticultural crops for the benefit of the Réseau des femmes d'Oulampane (Community of the Women of Oulampane), in the Casamance area heavily affected by the consequences of climate change and, in particular, from the ascent of the salt wedge. A well equipped with a solar panel pump was built, connected to a system for collecting water, distributed through irrigation pipes; Subsequently, the site was fenced and a warehouse was erected for the storage and sale of horticultural products.

"Water is a resource for everyone at the service of the Earth and its communities - concludes Massimo Gargano, Director General of the National Association of Consortia for the Management and Protection of the Territory and Irrigated Waters (ANBI) - The project in Senegal is a piece of our openness to the world and which sees the experience of Italian consortium bodies, a frequent protagonist of exchanges both with the driest countries of the Mediterranean and Africa, and with masters of hydraulic engineering, such as the Dutch or environmental management like the British .
