Planting work in the Russian Far East.

The sowing campaign in the regions of the Far Eastern Federal District has crossed the "equator" - as of June 1, spring sowing was carried out on an area of 1.4 million hectares or 57.4% of the planned. The pace of spring field work exceeds last year, in 2019 on the same date they were completed on 1.1 million hectares.

According to the regional management bodies of the agro-industrial complex, agricultural organizations of the Far Eastern Federal District are currently fully provided with internal labor resources for seasonal field work in 2020. As in the entire Russian agro-industrial complex, in the Far East there is a tendency to transfer workers from other sectors of the economy to agriculture. At the same time, agricultural enterprises are ready to offer competitive wages and employment opportunities for highly qualified professionals.

Currently, according to operational data of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, spring wheat in the Far Eastern Federal District is sown on 206.4 thousand ha, barley - 61.2 thousand ha, corn - 79.4 thousand ha, rice - 6.7 thousand ha, oilseeds rapeseed - 20.1 thousand ha, soybeans - 811.9 thousand ha, potatoes - 10.8 thousand ha, vegetables - 3.4 thousand ha. The total area of spring sowing in the region is projected at about 2.4 million ha, which is 220 thousand ha more than last year. The increase will increase crop volumes, increase the self-sufficiency of the Far East entities and increase agricultural exports.

The development of agricultural production and the increase in the level of food security in the Far Eastern Federal District will also be facilitated by new support measures adopted by the Government of the Russian Federation. In particular, at the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia in May 2020, the program of subsidizing rail transport, approved by the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 406 of 04.06.2019, was significantly expanded. Now, at preferential rates, cereals, mineral fertilizers, as well as vegetables for greenhouses and borscht, vegetables from Siberia and the Urals will be delivered to the regions of the Far Eastern Federal District throughout the year.

In addition, the amendments envisage the introduction of preferential tariffs for the export of soy flour from the Far Eastern Federal District to the regions of Siberia and the Urals. This will provide an opportunity for farmers to expand sales channels for these products, as well as to meet the demand of the livestock industry in highly efficient feed produced in the Far East.
