How to choose the most suitable NPK fertilizer based on the needs of the plants

Hydro Fert has developed the Gran Foliar line for all the needs of plants, as it includes products with different NPK formulations to provide the crop with the right amount of macronutrients it needs.

NPK fertilizers are so called because they are composed of three primary macronutrients: nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K). Such elements perform a specific function for plants metabolism, promoting the growth and the well-being of crops.

Hydro Fert has developed the Gran Foliar line for all the needs of plants. The reason is that not exists just one NPK fertilizer but several types according to the percentage of macronutrients. A “20-20-20” NPK fertilizer contains, for example, 20% nitrogen, 20% phosphorus and 20% potassium, while a “10-10-30” fertilizer contains 10% nitrogen, 10% phosphorus and 30% potassium.

The formulation of the fertilizer, that is the proportion between the various elements, is to provide the right quantity of macronutrients compared to the objective to be reached.

The functions of macronutrients

N (Nitrogen): is essential for plants growth, especially for the green parts, because it is the main element in the construction of plant cells and chlorophyll. Nitrogen persists in the soil for a relatively short time, so it is necessary to fertilize the ground several times a year or use a slow-release fertilizer.

P (Phosphorus): strengthens the roots, improves flowering and promotes photosynthesis. It is therefore essential during all stages of plant life: from birth to flowering and fruiting. Lack of phosphorus can cause weak growth and greater weakness to insects and diseases.

K (Potassium): is essential for the water’s absorption and balance of plants. It contributes to the development of strong and robust tissues, in order to resist against diseases and extreme temperature changes. Potassium also improves the flavor, color and texture of fruits.

Solid or liquid form: the right one for every need

NPK fertilizers are available in two forms: solid and liquid. The first, usually as granules or powder, is suitable for soil application or top dressing. Its effect is longer lasting, because it releases substances as it degrades.

Instead, the liquid form is ideal in case of fertigation, to faster bring nutrients to the roots. In addition, in particular cases, it can be used directly on the leaves.

NPK fertilizer: which one to choose?

The premise is that there is not an absolute best fertilizer. The choice depends on various factors: the type of plant, the composition of the soil, the dosing period, the method of application, etc.

This is why Hydro Fert technicians help farmers to choose the NPK fertilizer that best suits their needs and use the products in the most effective way, thanks to the fertilization plans.

Always in fact, Hydro Fert’s goal is taking care of the customer, in order to feed the plants in the best way and grow together.
