Russia increases mineral fertilizer application volume

Dmitri Patrushev, Russian Agriculture Minister, met this week with representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Federal Antimonopoly Service and the country's industrial unions to discuss the situation in the mineral fertilizers market.

In this framework, it has been indicated that the acquisition of fertilizers in the Russian Federation, including purchases for the spring 2024 planting season, is carried out rhythmically, supported by stable prices, even lower than last year. for most types of fertilizers.

In this way, Russian farmers purchased, from June to October, almost 4 million tons of fertilizers, 102% of what was planned; an index, also, higher than the level of the same period last year. Until the end of November, regulatory measures for the fertilizer market were planned, but considering their effectiveness, Dmitry Patrushev asked the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Federal Antimonopoly Service to quickly prepare regulations for the timely extension of measures to regulate the fertilizer market. fertilizers until the end of May 2024.

In this sense, the Russian Government foresees an increase in the volume of application of mineral fertilizers of up to 65 kg per hectare, something that, from the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, is considered "very important to increase productivity and general growth in production." .

Likewise, the meeting approved the proposal to increase the export limit of fertilizers by 2.2 million tons compared to the currently set export quotas, which are at 60%, and it was agreed to continue monitoring the levels. of stocks and evaluation of domestic demand to adjust export quotas out is necessary.
