Annual carrot production in Costa Rica increased by 31% from 2022 to 2023

The export of this vegetable increased by 82% in this period.

Carrot production in Costa Rica increased by 31% from 2022 to 2023. In 2022, 29,600 tons were produced and in 2023, a total of 38,914 tons, according to the Carrot Analysis and Monitoring report issued by the Market Information Service of the National Production Council (CNP), which prepared the report based on data obtained from censuses conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) of Costa Rica.

The areas with the highest production were: Oreamuno, Zarcero, Alvarado and Cartago; there was also a harvest in Dota, Naranjo, El Guarco, Sarchí, Turrialba, Alajuela, Poás and Paraíso.

International trade

The export of this vegetable increased by 82% from 2022 to 2023, from 7,997 to 14,591 tons. The main destination is Caribbean countries such as Trinidad and Tobago, Puerto Rico, Guyana and Guadeloupe, among others.

On the other hand, imports dropped from 163 tons in 2022 to 31 tons in 2023. This product is imported from Mexico at 74% and Guatemala at 26%, according to data from the General Directorate of Customs of Costa Rica.
