After the good results in the Colombian coffee sector during the first semester, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Colombia, Rodolfo Zea Navarro, announced that everything is ready to receive the second harvest of the year, which represents 60% of the production.

“We are ready to receive the largest coffee harvest of the year. In this second semester, around eight million bags will be produced, which are collected mainly in the departments of Caldas, Risaralda, Quindío and Antioquia. We hope that with the current prices of internal cargo above $ 900,000, we will achieve a harvest equivalent to $ 5.2 billion, "said the head of the agricultural portfolio.

Minister Zea Navarro added that for the second harvest of the year, which peaks between October and November, between 180,000 and 200,000 collectors will be needed, who will be able to mobilize with all the necessary protocols to avoid contagions from the pandemic.
"Together with the National Federation of Coffee Growers and the local authorities we will guarantee that the mobilization of people and the logistics to transport the cargo of coffee operate without problem, under established security protocols and others that will be strengthened to protect the health of workers", Zea noted.

Likewise, Zea Navarro stressed that thanks to the joint work between the Government, the National Federation of Coffee Growers, local authorities and all producers, it is expected that in 2020 it will close with 14.2 million bags, equivalent to 8.9 billion dollars, as long as the prices of the internal load of coffee and the listing of the pound of the bean in the New York Stock Exchange are maintained.

The Minister reiterated that the government of President Duque will continue to strengthen and accompany coffee growers vigorously through the coffee renewal program and coffee expansion plans, so that they translate into knowledge, good agricultural practices and improvements in productivity. .
