While the recent health crisis has highlighted the strategic role of the agricultural sector in ensuring food security and sovereignty, the minister sent a strong message on the importance of multilateralism and greater cooperation among G20 members to help the sector. agriculture to address the global challenges it faces and to improve the sustainability and resilience of food systems.

The minister energetically reaffirmed France's commitment to implement the Paris Agreement to face the challenge of climate change and recalled that our country is placing its actions within the framework of the Green Pact of the European Commission and the future CAP. which will support all European farmers in this transition.

The Covid-19 health crisis has also demonstrated the importance of strengthening zoonoses prevention and surveillance, requiring unwavering cooperation between the OIE, WHO and FAO to propose recommendations to reduce risks.

Julien Denormandie also called on his G20 counterparts to raise the level of ambition in the fight against bio-resistance and, in particular, to end the use of antibiotics as growth factors, as the European Union has already done.

The Minister of Agriculture thanked the Saudi presidency for integrating all water-related issues in order to establish a roadmap to strengthen international cooperation in this area.

Although the G20 ministers reached common guidelines on these three issues, the lack of consensus on whether to take the Paris agreement into account did not allow the adoption of a joint declaration. Italy, which will assume the presidency of the G20 in 2021, is committed to continuing negotiations with a view to achieving a shared vision.

For Julien Denormandie, “more than ever, it is important that the agriculture ministers of the G20 countries, which represent 60% of the world's agricultural land, transmit strong messages to collectively face the global challenges facing the agricultural and foos sector, particularly climate change. There is strong cohesion between the European countries represented in the G20. It is essential to continue the discussions to reach a commitment at the international level to respect the commitments of the Paris Agreement."
