On June 26, 2020, the Russian international agricultural forum 'The Greenhouse Industry: A New Reality' was held in an online format. Representatives of greenhouse plants and peasant farms; companies that produce fertilizers and special equipment for greenhouses, representing innovative energy-saving technologies for the production of vegetables in greenhouses; farms, seed companies, construction companies (greenhouse construction); companies that produce equipment for irrigation, heat supply, microclimate; representatives of retail chains and authorities participated in the forum. The organizer of the forum was "Agribusiness Magazine", while Syngenta, Geffen, PJSC Rostelecom were sponsors. The event was officially supported by the Transportation and Logistics Subcommittee of the RSPP International Cooperation Committee.

The session was devoted to the analysis of the state of the Russian vegetable growing sector in closed ground. The moderator was Valery Kochergin, Director of the Agribusiness Journal, who addressed with a welcome speech on behalf of the forum organizers.

The session was opened by Guriy Shilov, CEO of Greenhouse, with a report on the topic "Russian vegetables growing in closed ground: state of the industry, prospects for development, state support in current conditions". He not only spoke about the positive factors for the development of the industry, but also about a series of challenges for the industry, including the increase in energy costs, the reduction of traffic in stores due to quarantine, a drop in wholesale prices of vegetables, high costs of loans, devaluation of the ruble, cheap imported products and others. He mentioned the initiatives of the Fruit and Vegetable Union and the Ministry of Agriculture related to additional state support for soft loans (possible repayment of principal and interest on a loan by 2021), partial subsidy of energy costs and a temporary restriction on imports. Furthermore, the speaker expressed confidence in the future growth of the tomato market: the 2020 crisis could become a new trigger for growth under certain conditions.

The session was continued by Mariya Ivasenko, project manager of the Rostov Technologies research company, with the report "Price trends in the greenhouse vegetable segment in 2020". She spoke about the stressful state of the protected soil industry, which has developed due to a decrease in purchasing power, increased competition between domestic plants, increased capacity, and restrictions in interregional logistics. Most of the report was devoted to a detailed review of the price dynamics of tomatoes and cucumbers for different varieties.

Tamara Reshetnikova, CEO of research company Growth Technologies, forecast changes in the balance of supply and demand in the greenhouse market in 2020–2021. She cited facts and predictions about changes in the area under winter and spring greenhouses; The dynamics of the gross harvest of industrial greenhouses in the last 5 years and the predicted dynamics of the gross harvest of industrial greenhouses until 2024. He ended his presentation with a forecast of changes in the deficit of national production in greenhouses to replace the imports into the Russian Federation.

The first session of the forum was completed by Alexander Lyskovsky, CEO and co-founder of iFarm. His presentation was dedicated to vertical agriculture and its opportunities for the greenhouse industry. According to many experts, hyperlocal production is the future of various agricultural sectors, including a part of the protected land sector. The speaker told forum participants about the growth of the market for ultra-fresh products, in Russia this growth is faster due to the "recovery" trend. She pointed out the problems of product delivery and spoke about an innovative solution: small and medium vertical farms to grow ultra-fresh products, a digital marketing platform. The speaker described the economics of vertical farms and the stages of the launch process for these greenhouses.

"Agrology: from seeds to the supply of finished products" is the theme of the second session of the forum, moderated by Oleg Dunaev, director of the Center for Strategic Development of Logistics, vice-president of the RSPP Committee for International Cooperation, Transport and Logistics.

The session was opened by Gleb Akchurin, General Manager of the Ukrainian office of Rhenus Logistics, with a presentation "Agrology of crop production: how to build a chain from seed to finished products". He spoke about his company's activities dedicated to international and national transport, multimodal transport, air transport and customs clearance. The speaker announced the start of construction of a new specialized transport center in the Krasnodar Territory (Bryukhovetskaya Station). The project includes 10,000 square meters of storage for seeds, 10,000 square meters of storage for plant protection and 10,000 square meters of reserve for future development.

Artem Alekhin, Deputy Director General of Gorkunov Management Company, told forum participants about the transport of greenhouse products in the Russian regions. The company currently includes 6 large combines, where more than 80,000 tons of vegetables are harvested annually. The speaker outlined the main trends in agrology in the greenhouse sector in Russia, speaking about the logic of product movement in Gorkunov, the main areas of product movement, as well as the technologies used in logistics.

Irina Birman, advisor in cooperation with the Kingdom of the Netherlands of the regional representation of RF CCI, director of Stroomi BV and Innovation Media (Netherlands), continued the session with the report “Technological innovations for storing and transporting vegetables. Closed circuit economy vector. From food waste to a new business. "He showed participants a roadmap to address agrology-related food waste problems. The map enables him to determine where the company is currently located and how it can reduce costs in each stage (greenhouse production - harvesting - processing - storage - packaging and maturation - transport and distribution - retail - consumer).

The session was concluded by Dmitry Tosunov, Key Account Manager at Syngenta, presenting premium segment hybrids for growth in high-tech greenhouses. This issue turned out to be important in the conditions of the economic and epidemiological crisis, since the hybrids of the premium segment, according to the greenhouses, have the lowest price volatility under such conditions (within 5-15%).

The third session of the forum was dedicated to the experience of developing greenhouse vegetable cultivation

The session was opened by Roman Nuriev, Commercial Director of Interagro. Modern trends in the effective preparation of greenhouse crops are based on all kinds of automation within the framework of integrated solutions: acceptance, product quality control, sorting, packaging, automated feeding of containers and loading areas, as well as storage of tampons and palletizing. Solutions have been developed for all types of farms: from the largest to micro-enterprises, taking into account both market requirements and the financial capabilities of companies. Keep in mind that the actual indicators in monetary terms for farms using even the least degree of process automation reach 20%. The speaker on specific examples showed the automation capabilities (up to 100%) of greenhouse complexes of various sizes, showed a real project to equip a greenhouse complex in the Moscow region for pre-sale preparation of berries and leafy salads.

How can greenhouse automation protect suppliers and end customers? Konrad Kloskowski, regional project manager for the Viscon Group (Netherlands) tried to answer this question. Practice has long demonstrated the benefits of production automation, because, for example, optimizing 5 seconds in production creates approximately 33% efficiency. The speaker presented his company's solutions for turnkey automation in sorting, packaging and logistics. The trend is now for online ordering refrigeration solutions: self-service drop-off points for fresh fruits and vegetables available 24 hours a day.

Maxim Gribov, director of Geffen, a Russian manufacturer of energy efficient condensing boilers, spoke about efficient heat generation for the greenhouse. The company's plant, located in the Tula region, produces gas condensing floor boilers for commercial facilities, water treatment systems, reverse osmosis plants. Considering the case of one of the greenhouse facilities, forum participants saw an analysis of the specific heat consumption per year and the structure of energy costs for heating greenhouses. Thermotechnical calculations have shown the high efficiency of GEFFEN condensing boilers compared to atmospheric or fire tube boilers.

The forum ended with Ivan Chumakov, politician, public figure, expert in economic policy and investment, with a report on the topic "Civil cooperation as an effective instrument for interaction with the government." In his opinion, it is undoubtedly important that small agricultural producers establish communications with the authorities, while only the group allows them to successfully communicate with society and the authorities. Civil cooperation is also important in obtaining high-quality state support so that the latter does not form in isolation from the professional and business community. In addition, manufacturers' associations can reduce the risks of hostile acquisitions and popularize the industry to attract research staff and funds.
