Complete the world's first zero-emission harvest of a Barolo cru and celebrate 2025 by uncorking the first bottle of 100% sustainable wine from the prestigious King of Wines: these are the goals of the collaboration between FPT Industrial and Fontanafredda presented at a press conference digital.

The global challenge of the energy transition requires not only widely shared solutions on a large scale but also concrete actions in specialized sectors that must be able to deliver specific results and attract the interest of a wider public through the great intrinsic value of projects in Yes. Both can be achieved with projects that involve partners with a long-term commitment to environmental responsibility.

These guidelines are a fundamental part of the brand identity from the beginning and FPT Industrial, the global powertrain brand of CNH Industrial N.V. (NYSE: CNHI / MI: CNHI) and the world's largest manufacturer of engines with low environmental impact, has partnered with Fontanafredda, the historic winery founded by Vittorio Emanuele II, the first king of Italy, in 1858. Fontanafredda produces Barolo and other greats Wines from the Langhe region which currently has 120 hectares of certified organic vineyards and supports a new green renaissance through best grape growing practices with no environmental impact.

The heart of this collaboration is the supply of two New Holland TK Methane Power vineyard crawler tractors with biomethane fueled natural gas FPT Industrial F28 engines that will work at Vigna La Rosa cru where the legendary Barolo grapes with the same name are grown. , a wine that is on Wine Spectator's Top 100 list of the best wines in the world.

FPT Industrial's F28 engine was recently awarded the "Engine of the Year 2020" award for its modular multi-propulsion approach. It is an engine designed to be compact, productive and environmentally friendly. In fact, it fulfills all the characteristics of power, performance and low environmental impact necessary for specialized applications such as, for example, in tractors for vineyards and orchards where compactness and small overall dimensions are essential requirements. The F28 is capable of running on diesel or natural gas and is ready to hybridize.

The biomethane model designed for Fontanafredda was developed from a New Holland Agriculture vineyard crawler tractor. It offers a power of 75 hp with a maximum torque of 330 Nm and thus guarantees, in complete safety, maximum performance, exactly the same as its diesel equivalent, even when working on the steepest slopes and on typical slippery terrain. one of the most exclusive vineyards in the Italian wine region of Langhe. All this is carried out with a zero carbon footprint since the biomethane that powers the engine is not a fossil fuel, but is obtained from the anaerobic digestion of agricultural waste.

Fontanafredda has a historical commitment to environmental sustainability both on land, using organic farming methods, and in the winery, through the use of indigenous yeasts. In 2020 these decades of evolution culminated in a new perspective: the green renaissance. The new renaissance will create a great global community united around respect for the earth, which will also express itself through respect for the people. These values have led to the "greening" of all daily procedures, from the reuse of water to the choice of healthy, natural and environmentally friendly packaging, and to the use of clean energy in the complex of the Fontanafredda estate. Thanks to FPT Industrial, from the 2021 harvest, mobility in the vineyard is also sustainable. The arrival of tractors powered by biomethane will allow Fontanafredda to reduce emissions from the vineyard to zero and make growing operations even more sustainable.

The three-year collaboration between FPT Industrial and Fontanafredda is supported by the Tobias Project of the Piedmont region, with contributions from New Holland Agriculture, CNH Industrial and local companies. Furthermore, it demonstrates once again that complex projects of this type can be virtuous examples of networking for a common goal. The partners involved in the supply chain project are DIMSPORT S.r.l., HYSYTECH S.r.l., S.T.C. S.r.l., STEMS-CNR and T.C.E. TORINO CREA ENGINEERING S.r.l ..

“After being the heart of the vehicles named Sustainable Tractor of the Year and Sustainable Truck of the Year”, declares Annalisa Stupenengo, CEO of FPT Industrial, “addressing the needs of the prestigious and delicate top quality wine sector is an absolutely challenging challenge for us. In fact, the partnership with Fontanafredda will allow us, once again, demonstrating our full support for the European Union in its leadership in the green transition. Our biomethane engines are as efficient and high performance as diesel engines, and this renewable and sustainable fuel is the real and immediately available alternative to eliminate emissions from agricultural vehicles. "

“We are very lucky to live in an exclusive part of the world and we have to take care of our wonderful land,” says Andrea Farinetti, producer at Fontanafredda. “We need a new rebirth or else a tomorrow as we know it today is inconceivable. Obviously we have to change and renew ourselves. For us, this renewal means making our land the center of everything we do. This must be our priority objective and it must lead us to the creation of a great world community based on trust in others. This community will have many tools to safeguard our planet: ours will be wine, 'green' wine. Our partnership with FPT Industrial shows that together we can do more and better. "
