The strategic dialogue on the future of EU agriculture presents its final report to von der Leyen

These suggestions will guide the work of the European Commission in shaping its vision on agriculture and food, which will be presented in the first 100 days of President von der Leyen's second term.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen today received the final report of the Strategic Dialogue on the future of EU agriculture, delivered by the group's Chair, Peter Strohschneider. Entitled "A shared vision for agriculture and food in Europe", the report presents an assessment of the challenges and opportunities, followed by a set of recommendations. These suggestions will guide the European Commission's work in shaping its vision for agriculture and food, which will be presented in the first 100 days of President von der Leyen's second term.

The Commission welcomes the important work carried out by the 29 members of the Strategic Dialogue since its launch by President von der Leyen in January 2024, as well as the constructive engagement they have shown throughout the process, in order to draft the final report and adopt it unanimously. Today's outcome shows that it is possible to reach consensus between key interests across the agri-food chain, even in times of polarisation around the public debate on agri-food issues.

This approach, which fosters dialogue and mutual trust between different viewpoints, can contribute to delivering sustainable solutions for competitive, resilient, diversified and sustainable agri-food systems in the EU. The Commission will therefore closely assess the report's recommendations to create a new platform bringing together stakeholders from the agri-food sector, civil society and the scientific world to further reflect on strategies for making agri-food systems more sustainable and resilient.
