Sheffield City Council has embraced New Holland’s latest T5 product range by expanding its fleet of blue brand tractors. The local authority has bought four new T5.105 four-wheel-drive machines for grounds maintenance, adding to another four New Holland tractors purchased three years ago. The deal was with New Holland dealership Golf & Turf Machinery, a trading division of Platts Harris Ltd, based in Tuxford. The tractors are fitted with Ransome 5/7 Gang Mowing units to establish seven mowing routes across the city. Melvyn Riley, District Parks Officer at Sheffield City Council, said: “We currently had four New Holland Tractors which we purchased three years ago and have worked very well in terms of operating costs and reliability. “We have purchased a further four tractors to standardise our fleet, of which the majority will now be made up of New Holland tractors as we moved away from a mixed fleet of McCormick CX75 and Massey Ferguson 4235 fleets. “The tractors are very efficient and well balanced when the gang mowing units are fitted and their performance exceeds our previous units’ output.” The T5 range is highly adaptable with a full range of PTO speeds, high visibility roof hatch and front and rear linkage. It can turn its hand to a variety of municipal and groundcare applications including transport and loader work. Powered by Common Rail engines that fully comply with the stringent Tier 4A emission regulations, it has a power-to-weight ratio of a mere 37.3kg/hp for outstanding performance and impressive fuel economy. Melvyn Riley added: “We were impressed by the cooperation of Golf and Turf, Ransomes and New Holland working together to get the new tractors fitted with the 5/7 units and meeting the delivery date. “We are currently operating two New Holland tractors with front loading buckets; one of which is also used to tow a trailed rotary grass cutting unit which gives us additional flexibility to our grass cutting operation. “We are looking forward to operating our New Holland tractor fleet over the next few years which is reliable, efficient and cost-effective in terms of repairs and maintenance, whilst giving us the flexibility to meet any changes we may have to make to future grass maintenance regimes.” Glen Sawyer, Sales Manager at Golf & Turf Machinery, said: “We are delighted Sheffield City Council came to us for more New Holland machines after having such a good experience in the past. “The T5.105 is an excellent tractor which is highly adaptable so I’m sure the latest four will prove another very useful and reliable addition to the council’s fleet.”
