France announces new aids for wine sector

This new consignment joins the one already announced on May 11th by the French Government for viticulture.

Bruno Le Maire, Minister for the Economy and Finance, Didier Guillaume, Minister for Agriculture and Food, and Olivier Dussopt, Secretary of State for Gérald Darmanin, Minister for Action and Public Accounts for France, met, as they promised on May 11, with actors from the French wine sector to complete the first support plan.

At the end of this meeting, new exceptional and sector-specific support measures were announced to guarantee market stability and the continuation of its activity for 30 million euros, in addition to the 140 million announced on May 11:
  • Opening of a measure for aid to private storage in the amount of 15 million euros for 2Mhl complementary to distillation of crisis

  • An increase in the crisis distillation envelope of 5 million euros for the purchase prices established at € 78/hl for POD/PGI wines and at € 58/hl for VSIG;

  • Aid to distilleries of up to € 40 / hlap for a total envelope of € 10 million;
The French government also confirmed that companies in the wine sector particularly affected by the economic and health crisis will be eligible for exemption from employers' social security contributions to be adopted in the next financial amendment law.
