After the subscription of the Peruvian blueberry access to the important market in Taiwan, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MINAGRI) of Peru announced the phytosanitary certification of the first shipment of Peruvian blueberries to that important Asian market.

The company Hortifrut - Perú S.A.C. located in Trujillo, La Libertad region, it is the first to ship a container with 7,800 boxes, weighing 11.7 tons of Ventura variety blueberries.

The opening of this destination was completed after the result of years of work between MINAGRI, through SENASA, with the phytosanitary authorities of Taiwan - BAPHIQ (Bureau of animal and Plant Health Inspection And Quarantine).

The cargo will be transported by sea, starting on Friday, October 2, from the port of Paita, located in the city of Piura, until it disembarks at the port of Keelung, approximately on October 29; It is worth mentioning that the container maintains the appropriate temperature for optimal preservation of the product until its destination.

With a market of more than 23 million potential consumers, Taiwan joins the main destinations where this product arrives, such as the United States, the Netherlands, China, the United Kingdom, among others, who already enjoy the appreciated Peruvian blueberries, considered the super 21st century fruit.

SENASA's work to achieve the export of blueberries includes post-entry quarantine of blueberry plants, sanitary and phytosanitary certification of places of production, packing plants, shipments, integrated pest management, among other aspects.

All these actions are necessary to comply with the demanding requirements and protocols established by national regulations and the NPPOs (National Plant Protection Organizations) of the importing country.

In La Libertad

Currently, La Libertad has 7,326.09 hectares of blueberries certified by SENASA, which are constantly growing, with the main producing and exporting areas being the provinces of Virú, Trujillo and Chepén.

In the July 2019 - June 2020 campaign, blueberry exports reached 79,827,364 metric tons.
