Peruvian Government will recover and revalue 120,000 hectares of agricultural land The andenes project will benefit more than 1 million producers, will be carried out in 11 regions of the country. 10/31/2024
The minister of Agrarian and Agricultural Development MIDAGRI of Peru, Angel Manero Campos, arrived in the Moquegua region to formalize the launch of the project “Andenes and productive cultural landscapes”, which consists of recovering and revaluing 120,038 hectares of agricultural land with fine agricultural purposes, in a execution period of 5 years and with an investment of S/ 650,171,406.00. Minister Manero highlighted that “with this project of 120 thousand hectares of tree recovery, we are launching the biggest project in Peru, on the ground for its history, for what it means, for our trees for a thousand years, for a thousand years, something that will not be found anywhere in the world”, he stated. The andenes project will benefit more than 1 million producers, will be carried out in 11 regions of the country. This is the work of the Ministry of Agrarian and Agricultural Development (MIDAGRI), through its Agro Rural program and articulated with the Ministry of Culture (Mincul), to further develop this initiative to promote small farmers. From the highest point of the district of Carumas, in the peasant community of Cambrune, the place where this activity took place, the head of MIDAGRI said that with the execution of this project agricultural, cultural and tourism development will be promoted in 45 provinces and 226 districts of the departments of Amazonas, Apurímac, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Cusco, Huancavelica, Junín, Lima, Moquegua, Puno and Tacna. “We are bringing together history, cultural importance, biodiversity and the opportunity for economic enterprise so that families in the area can obtain greater income and improve their quality of life. As I say here these are gastronomic and tourist attractions”, citing as an example that one can achieve with the cultivation of native papayas for 30 thousand soles per campaign”, he said. In his exposition, he said that with the porridge processing, the country could achieve exports of US$1,000 million worth of native porridge. Asimism, details that, during the first stage (the first 3 years) of execution of this project, registered under the name of “Improvement of support services for productive development in energy systems in use in 11 regions of Peru”, S/ 149,938,438.00 will be executed to benefit around 180 thousand producers in the departments of Amazonas, Apurímac, Ayacucho, Cusco, Moquegua and Puno. I also say that among the beneficiaries are agricultural producers from subsistence family farming, who have agricultural land in use, land where this support for productive development will be carried out. The main components that will be implemented from 2025 onwards, the public investment project will allow increasing productivity in ancestral energy systems, innovation in agricultural production systems in ancestral energy spaces, productive diversification and strengthening agrobiodiversity . Productive andenes in Moquegua In turn, the mayor of Carumas, Edgar Escobar thanked the recovery of these andenes and “is going to allow the feeding of our population, which will contribute to their nutrition, we will have ecological products thanks to the andenes, we will increase them lands for agricultural production”, comments In the act, several authorities also participated, such as the regional general manager of Moquegua, Abraham Ponce Sosa, the director of the Dirección Deconcentrada de Cultura de Moquegua, Ángel Tito Calizaya and the executive director of Agro Rural, Víctor Baca, among other employees and invited. In the first stage of project execution, approximately 2800 hectares of land will be rehabilitated in the provinces of Moquegua (Mariscal Nieto and General Sánchez Cerro); However, during the five years of execution of “Andenes and productive cultural landscapes”, the total goal for the entire region is to achieve the recovery of 12,987 hectares, promoting productive cultural landscapes within the included areas and the dynamization of the economy of a total of 4600 families in each department.
