With exponential growth in international markets, kiwi, originally from China, has become one of the most sought-after fruits worldwide. This small but powerful food, rich in vitamin C and dietary fiber, has gained a prominent place in the healthy diets of global consumers.

A recent report by Mordor Intelligence highlights how the growing preference for nutritional products has driven companies to include kiwi in their portfolio, which represents a key opportunity for producers.

Countries with the highest consumption of kiwi

According to a study in Shenzhen, China is positioned as the largest consumer of kiwi globally, with an annual consumption of 2.2 million tons, equivalent to 57% of world consumption. Despite this leadership, the study highlights a growing international demand, especially in markets such as the United States and Europe.

However, behind this success is the need to know in depth the best agricultural practices to guarantee an abundant and sustainable harvest, making this fruit a viable option for farmers seeking to meet growing global demand.

“Kiwi is an intensive crop that requires a considerable initial investment in infrastructure, which forces us to focus on more efficient and sustainable solutions,” says Malcolm Deacon, owner of Gold Tree Farms.

How to ensure a good kiwi production?

Precision techniques and agriculture work to mitigate potential pest and rootstock problems. The main benefits of Rivulis Rondo and Supertif are their high percentage of effectiveness, uniform water distribution and reliability.

Deacon managed to achieve a 50% increase in production in the kiwi crop block with the highest yield thanks to the application of sprinkler irrigation. To design the irrigation system, he had the advice of experts, who recommended the use of the Rivulis Rondo model in the orchard due to its uniformity in the distribution of water and nutrients.

In the nursery, they opted for inserted drippers, Rivulis Supertif, which guaranteed precise and efficient irrigation, thus allowing to reduce water stress in the plants and optimize the overall yield of the crop.

In this way, farmers looking to enter the kiwifruit market can opt for solutions that optimise the productivity and quality of their crops, allowing them to compete more effectively in expanding international markets.

“Every grower knows that there is no substitute for working in their own field or orchard. But being aware of their irrigation and focusing on products that offer wide, effective distribution and good filtration make a big difference in terms of peace of mind and results,” concludes Deacon.
