Peruvian exports of fresh fruits and vegetables by nautical route grow 10% in value in the first four months of 2020 Mangoes and citrus fruits had an outstanding participation during this period. 6/9/2020
Between January and April 2020, the Peruvian agricultural sector had an increase in its exports of 3%, equivalent to US $ 1,947 million, compared to the same period of the previous year where it registered shipments of US $ 1,890 million. The agro-export sector in general, continued as the second exporting sector in the country. The registered growth is mainly due to the increase in exports of the fresh fruits subsector, with a significant increase in its exports of 13%, with products such as fresh grapes, whose shipments during the mentioned period registered a total of US $ 465 million (+ 30%), followed by avocado with US $ 157 million (+ 11%); in addition to mango and citrus fruits that had an outstanding performance with US $ 219 million (+ 23%) and US $ 27 million (+ 52%) respectively. The fresh vegetables subsector, however, had a lower performance compared to the same period during 2019, registering US $ 87 million in total (-11%). Within this subsector, the export of fresh asparagus had a total of US $ 65 million (-13%), followed by onion with US $ 13 million (-17%), fresh garlic with US $ 7 million (+10 %), squash with US $ 1.3 million (+ 45%), peas and capsicum with US $ 1 million each, with growths of 75% and 61% respectively. Both sectors together, fresh fruits and vegetables (F&H), achieved shipments of US $ 1,112 million (+ 10%). Regarding the destination markets for Peruvian fruits and vegetables, the main one was the European continent with US $ 453 million (+ 8%), the Netherlands standing out with US $ 270 million (+ 10%), Spain with US $ 71 million (+ 18%) and the United Kingdom with US $ 44 million (-21%). North America follows with US $ 426 million (+ 17%), with the United States standing out with US $ 405 million (+ 18%) and Canada US $ 21 million (+ 13%). Finally, there is the Asian continent with US $ 146 million (-3%), highlighting Hong Kong with US $ 69 million (+ 26%), China US $ 35 million (-21%) and South Korea US $ 25 million ( -eleven%). On the other hand, products such as coffee and cocoa registered a drop in their exports, with US $ 57 million and US $ 67 million respectively between January and April 2020. While ginger or kion, had shipments of US $ 19 million (+173 %).
