With an increase in the price index of 28.5% compared to the same month of the previous year, Brazilian exports from the agricultural sector reached the record value of the series in June 2022: 15,710 million dollars (+31.2%). There was also an expansion of 2.1% in the volume shipped.

Imports of agribusiness products totaled 1,530 million dollars (+19.8%), with an increase of 17.9% in average prices and 1.6% in imported volume.

The outstanding exports in June 2022 were records in the complex of soybeans, meat (chicken and beef) and coffee.

Soy complex

The soybean complex, the main export sector of Brazilian agribusiness, reached records of 8,060 million in sales abroad in June (+31.9%), despite the drop in imported volume (-2.3%), due to the performance of soybeans in grains.

China, a traditional importer of Brazilian oilseeds, acquired 64.5% of the value exported in June, 6.49 million tons (-8.2%). Soybean meal exports, the complex's second main product, reached 1.2 billion dollars in June (+63.8%). For the first time in the historical series, exports of the product in the months of June exceeded one billion dollars. The value reached was the result of the record volume exported (+33.5%), and also of the 22.7% increase in the average export price.

With the lower production of soybeans in South America (Argentina and Brazil), and the war in Ukraine (the world's largest exporter of sunflower meal), the supply of meal for animal feed was reduced in the world, impacting international prices of the Brazilian product. The main import market for Brazilian soybean meal was the European Union, which bought 448.26 million dollars (+41.4%) or 804,800 tons (+8.0%; 35.4% share).

Meat

Foreign sales of meat, the second most important sector in exports, were 2,350 million dollars in June 2022 (+32.0%). This is the highest monthly value of the entire historical series beginning in January 1997. The value was obtained mainly as a result of the increase in the average export prices of the sector's products (+25.8%), although with a lower increase in the quantity exported (+4.9%).

The main meat exported is beef, which registered 1,140 million dollars in sales abroad (+36.9%), a record value for the months of June, with an increase of 6.6% in volumes and 28.4% in average prices. The main import market is China, which acquired 65.9% of the value exported by Brazil in June, which meant 752.99 million dollars (+70.7%).

Chicken meat exports also reached a record in the historical series in June 2022, surpassing the US$900 million mark to reach US$932.12 million (+46.7%).

Coffee

The coffee sector exported 788.74 million dollars in June 2022 (+73.6%). Foreign sales of green coffee were 721.50 million dollars, a record value for the month of June and which meant an expansion of 76.7% compared to the 408.32 million dollars exported in June 2021. Exports of soluble coffee registered 57.2 million dollars in the mentioned month (+46.1%).

The main markets to which Brazil exported green coffee were: the European Union (376.68 million dollars; +82.5%) and the United States (168.69 million dollars; +171.9%). The record value of green coffee exports was due to the 70.3% increase in the average export price.

Year to date

In the first half of 2022, Brazilian agribusiness exports totaled 79.32 billion dollars (+29.4%), a record value for the period. The expansion was due to higher prices (+27.7%), while the volume exported grew less (+1.3%). Agribusiness represented 48.3% of total Brazilian exports in the first six months of 2022.

Agribusiness imports reached 8,140 million dollars in the semester (+8.5%), totally influenced by the variation in average prices (+17.7%), since the volume index decreased: -7.8% . This value does not include imported inputs for agricultural production.
