Chile and Brazil sign series of trade agreements and opening of agri-food markets

The Minister of Agriculture of Chile, Esteban Valenzuela, and his Brazilian counterpart, Minister Carlos Fávaro, led this Monday the signing of a series of trade agreements on forestry and agricultural matters.

The agreements were sealed by both Secretaries of State in the presence of the presidents of Chile, Gabriel Boric Font, and of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who witnessed the alliances that, among other things, enable the electronic certification of wines and drinks with Brazil; they deepen trade in organic products between both countries; They promote the opening for the export of toad skin melon from Chile to Brazil; and that also enables the market for peony cut flowers to the brother country, among other trade agreements.

In this regard, the Minister of Agriculture of Chile, Esteban Valenzuela, valued the alliances between both South American countries, maintaining that “they give (a) sign of the importance that the food issue has for Brazil. In fact, President Lula leads the fight against zero hunger worldwide, which he says is not due to lack of food, but rather due to political decisions of some countries and reiterated that Chile and Brazil share sustainable agriculture, just as Chile protects a lot. the sea, Brazil has made its own commitments to achieve zero deforestation of the Amazon by 2030.”

Likewise, regarding the agreements themselves, Valenzuela assured that "specifically, Chile and Brazil exchange mutually and for Chile, Brazil is the third trading partner after China and the United States, therefore, for Chile it is fundamental and also, as a platform to carry Hass avocados, which helps market competition and people's pockets. Organic certification is also very important, since this green matrix of agriculture is growing in both countries.”

Finally, the Secretary of State had words for the importance that the agreements signed this Monday have for the national wine industry:

“Brazil has become the country in which our wine exports are growing the most and that is very good news for the industry, both large and small, and an online certification has been agreed to facilitate export procedures. Added to this is a larger agreement in which there will be collaboration in rural, agricultural and plant health development,” concluded Minister Valenzuela after a historic day for the forestry and agricultural sector of our country.

At the end of the day and, in parallel with the official State activities, the Chile – Brazil Business Forum was held, an event organized by Sofofa and in which, among other topics, alliances between both nations in agriculture were addressed. , a sector that was also present in the large Brazilian business delegation during the event.
